Take-Home Pay & Tax Percentage Calculator

Enter any two of gross pay, take-home (net) pay, and total deductions — the calculator fills in the third and shows exactly what percentage of your paycheck went to taxes and deductions.

What it tells you

Set “Solve for” to the value you don’t know, then enter the other two. The calculator returns the missing amount plus two key percentages: the share of your gross that went to deductions (taxes, insurance, retirement, etc.) and the share you actually kept as take-home pay.

Gross, net, and deductions

Gross is your total pay before anything is taken out. Net (take-home) is what actually lands in your account. Deductions are the difference — federal and state tax, Social Security and Medicare (FICA), health insurance, 401(k), and any other withholdings. Because the three always add up (gross = net + deductions), knowing any two gives you the third.

Works beyond paychecks

The same math applies to any before-and-after amount: an invoice after payment-processing fees, a sale price after a discount, or a payout after a platform’s cut. Enter the two figures you have to see the fee/tax amount and what percentage it represents.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find what percentage of my paycheck goes to taxes?

Enter your gross pay and your net (take-home) pay with “Solve for” set to Deductions. The “% to deductions” result is the share of your gross that went to taxes and other withholdings.

Can it calculate my gross pay from net and deductions?

Yes. Set “Solve for” to Gross amount, then enter your net pay and total deductions — it adds them to give your gross, along with the percentages.

Are all deductions taxes?

No. Deductions include taxes (federal, state, FICA) but also non-tax items like health insurance premiums and 401(k) contributions. This tool shows the total that came out; it doesn’t break it into individual line items.
